How Can sharp Neck Pain Along With Numbness In Thumb Be Treated?

I have worked on computers etc for over 35 years...retired in 2011...got out the shower washing my hair...shook my head to help dry hair...felt a sharp pain go up my neck...days later my two fingers and thumb were numb and at night pain in my hand for a couple of nights...took aleve...no more pain...mentioned it to my doctor who says I have severe carpel tunnel...wearing a brace now but numb fingers are leaving...no more hand pain...should I consider having surgery?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If using a brace helps resolve the pain and numbness in few weeks, then surgery is not needed for carpel tunnel.

If not, then discuss considering surgery with your doctor.

At this point, since your symptoms are resolving, surgery is not required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
